I am in Philadelphia. The trip sucks (and I blame Robert Liguori), but the food is incredible. We just got back from driving three hours in traffic (giant tree squished a car on the freeway) to buy cheesesteaks from Tony Luke's.

Holy. Fucking. God.

I mean, intellectually, I know that all it is is thin-sliced beef, bread, and Cheese-Whiz. But it seems like so much more when put together. Adam, you lived here and are a vegetarian?!

This, right here, is what cows were invented for.

Tasty-Kakes are also good. I've tried three varieties, and they're all okay but too sweet, except for something called a "Peanut Butter Kandy Kake" which is just incredible. I'm going to have to pick up a 12 pack to take back.

This is a city I could live in. The food is good and the scenery is beautiful.

Isn't Philly also the fattest city in the US, or at least one of the top few? I guess that's why.

Yeah, looks like Philly is second after Houston.

Tastykake existed in NoVa when I was growing up there, but it was just another brand of baked goods, not an institution.

The next thing you need to try (from what I have heard) is the pretzels.

I was listening to some radio talk show the other day when they talked about Philly pretzels. Apparently some person outside of Philly used to have the nasty water they have there shipped to his business because that is the only thing that makes the pretzels taste "right."
