rbandrews: Mississippi Queen piece (printing)

My Arduino shield with the little screen and joystick came yesterday. Yay!

It needed soldering, and my iron inexplicably died. Boo!

Sears had another iron for reasonably cheap. Yay!

After I got it together, it turned out to not work. Boo!

They are mailing me a replacement! Yay!

In the meantime, I'm making a box to keep it and its Arduino in. Mostly this is just "measure stuff with calipers, place holes in a box, print it and hope it fits". My first box print curled up at the corners, meaning I need to do another round of bed-leveling (it seems I need to recalibrate it every couple of days), but it was the right interior dimensions. Unfortunately the power plug stuck out a little farther than I expected, so I'll need another run at it. Not that it really matters, I can't do anything else with this project for another few days anyway.

The goal is something like a game boy: Arduino powered, USB port, little screen and a d-pad. I'll write a couple simple games for it, just to see if I can.

Edit: Oh yeah, a picture. I don't want to photograph the printed prototype because it's not really that impressive, but this is more or less what the case will look like (hopefully!). The circles on the corners serve three purposes: a place to put screws to hold it together (it'll be a well-shaped piece with a faceplate, because I expect to have to do more tweaking to the faceplate so I want to be able to print it easily), a way to round the corners so they don't dig into your hands, and a big round anchor to keep the corners from curling up while it prints. I've found that sharp corners are more likely to curl; even a small amount of chamfer helps a lot.
