This weekend is an hour longer than last weekend!

It was also a lot of fun. Yesterday Andy, a guy from my old D&D group, came up randomly. We went to Fry's (where I found a copy of The Producers, the old, good one, for $4), played a game of Race for the Galaxy (with expansion), and generally hung out. His girlfriend Maria came too. They both chugged Mana Energy Potions (I bought one too, but haven't braved it yet). He wasn't affected at all, but she was talking really fast, bouncing around, and generally superhyper afterwards. It was pretty funny.

The expansion changes the game more than I expected. The cards make a lot of stuff possible that wasn't before, like an effective military strategy. The goals are also a lot of fun, they give you something to rate cards on other than point value. The solo game I'll talk about more later, but it totally kicked my ass the once I tried it last night.

I also found out that my car is going to need a lot of work on the brake system, which is sad, but nothing I can't survive.

My USBTinyISP kit came in the mail. I haven't built it yet. It's the nerdiest object I've seen in a while; a kit to build a cable that will connect a microcontroller device I built to a computer with code I wrote. It looks really easy to assemble, so it'll be an hour or so of amusement later this week.

On Friday I found out that my father's laptop's hard drive died totally, and would take between one and two hundred to fix. He opted instead to buy a whole new computer (new Macbook Pro, about twenty six hundred), and I'm buying his old one (hard-drive-less black Macbook) for $400. I bought a 250 gig drive from Fry's for $80, so when they come up next weekend (or when I go down for work week after next) I'll have a new laptop! My 800 MHz iBook has been showing its age, so this is good.

I will always be proud that I made that heap render some OpenGL stuff in Javascript at over 20 fps though. It required mass cleverness.

Cassie made cornish hens tonight, so we gorged on those and sweet potatoes and a bottle of Quady Electra I found at Central Market. Now I am writing code and listening to Carbon Leaf and it's even only 22:30.
