rbandrews: Mississippi Queen piece (printing)

I printed two boxes today.

Greg-from-work saw the triangle dovetail joint boxes and wanted one. I had already given away three of the four I made (and I kinda wanted to keep one myself) so I made him one: gray base, red lid, it looks sort of like lava. I wanted to see how well gray and red would print on the newly-calibrated printer; in other words, are my prints better due to better calibration or better filament?

Turns out, a little of both. One corner has stuff peeling up a tiny bit (Robert sat on the platform last night, and it wasn't really designed to hold 12 pounds of badly-behaved cat, so I think that knocked it out of alignment some), so I tweaked the alignment some. The prints in gray look much less blobby now than before but still not as good as the wonderful transparent blue stuff.

After that, I tried cranking out the new design of Box.

It's the same size but I refined the hinges some, and split the lid in half so it now opens in the middle instead of along one side. Here's a picture. It unfortunately doesn't snap together as beautifully as the other box; I think I made the two lid pieces slightly too wide, and I know I made the hinge holes too wide because the filament strings in there are too loose. Still, a pretty good outcome for a weekday night.
