Sep. 16th, 2013 10:45 amI didn't print a hexaflexagon yesterday but I'm in the process. I've made a pair of triangles linked by a hinge, so that proves that the basic design will work. I just need to make the rest of the stuff.
If you look closely at this design on Thingiverse, you can see that the nine triangles are actually three triangles repeated three times (the triangles themselves are identical, it's the symbols on them that repeat). This is pretty obvious when you think about how a hexaflexagon is folded, but it's good news in that it means I can make a smaller (easier to print) model and print three of them. I need a hinge compatible with linking them together after the print, but I would have needed that anyway for closing the loop.
So tonight I ought to be able to print another test, and verify that my link-hinges-with-paperclips method will work. Then the full print!
