Cataloguing
Dec. 25th, 2012 09:09 pmI've broken out Delicious Library again. This time I'm going to do things a little differently though.
Last time, in Austin, I got all the books scanned and then promptly never touched it again. I never kept the catalogue up-to-date, which was a problem because I bought more books, sold books back, and so on. And this was, of course, because the catalogue was totally useless: I couldn't get at it anywhere but the laptop, because I never got publishing to work.
So this time I'm making some adjustments. First off, I'm not doing mass-market paperbacks. A fairly significant percentage of mine are from before the invention of the bar code, so to hell with it. Too much effort. Instead I'm going to do DVDs, board games, and console games. Really, board games are more useful to me than books, because I have more of those I'd like to get rid of. I haven't decided if I want to do last-generation console games or not, because it's not like I can play them easily anyway.
Second, after doing a couple shelves of games (the ones in the living room), I set up publishing. Which was more of a hassle than it really should have been. See, the FTP publishing just wouldn't work at all for me, so I set it up to publish to a folder and then set up a script to rsync that folder to the server.
