The kits came last night! I am trading the light kit to the Australian guy, so I can't start it, but the logic board is all mine, so I spent about half an hour putting it together.
Soldering is much easier with a better iron. This one gets much hotter, so it's easier to do a lot of things, like quickly solder on chips. After half an hour this thing seems to work perfectly. I can stick LEDs and wires into the ribbon cables, simulating things happening on the light panel, and watch the messages come across the USB. There seem to be no problems with it, no stuck buttons or LEDs that always light.
There was one minor problem where with lots of things lit it'll get ghost button presses, but I am told this is just interference and will go away once I have a button panel.
