Startup Ideas I

Startup idea: Commercial Digest

You have stopped watching TV. Why bother? The Internet and your friends are much more compelling, and you can download the one or two shows you liked anyway. But then, you go to work, and your co-workers are making references to things you've never heard of! You finally figure it out: it's the commercials!

Commercials are part of our culture now, as much as the shows that they dissect. Advertisers have seen the light of viral marketing, and some of them are actually hilarious. This site would collect commercials and ads from advertisers, and users would vote for the funniest ones. There would also be a weekly zeitgeist page with the things you're most likely to have people quote.

Advertisers would love it because it's yet another avenue to put ads out on. Viewers would love it because it filters out unfunny ads and shows them only the hilarious ones.

I don't recall, as the one time I looked at said site whose name I can't remember (I think I was trying to find one of the Spongemonkey Quizno's commercials) was well over a year ago (maybe even two years ago), and I only used it the once. Sorry.

Regardless, doesn't everybody use YouTube for that sort of thing nowadays? So would it just sort of be a way of aggregating link/rating combos? Or would you host yourself? Do you like the transition from rhetorical questions to regular questions?
